More Calls for Inquiry of Wis US Atty

Monday’s call in the lead New York Times editorial for investigation into the U.S. Atty for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, Steven Biskupic’s dubious prosecution of a Wisconsin civil servant was joined by Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-Madison).

"Congress should also look into whether partisan politics influenced, or even dictated, the investigations conducted by the U.S. attorneys' offices in order to stay in the (Bush) administration's good graces," Baldwin said in a statement. "The 7th Circuit acquittal of Georgia Thompson, after a widely publicized pre-election prosecution, certainly raises serious questions about the integrity and motivation of the prosecutor."



Biskupic’s case was thrown out of the appeals court last week with one judge calling the evidence “beyond thin,” and has garnered widespread criticism as a partisan prosecution.

Biskupic’s office said that they would welcome a review, and repeated the assertion that his office took no account of partisan considerations in the conduct of his office.
